Industrial routers and Ethernet switches in application scenarios difference between

Time:2021-12-21 20:57:43 Popularity:660

Industrial routers provide the function of converting 5G/4G/3G network to WiFi, and the front end can be connected to various sensor devices, which meets the requirements of high efficiency and low latency for data transmission in the industrial field. The industrial switch is a network device used for electrical (optical) signal forwarding. It can provide an exclusive electrical signal path for any two network nodes connected to the switch. The most common switch is an Ethernet switch.

Industrial routers and industrial switches are different in many aspects:

1. Different functions (application scenarios are also different)

Industrial router: used as an indirect network to connect to different networks;

Ethernet switch: expand the access point of the local area network to allow more terminals to realize the network;

As mentioned above, industrial routers are networked through 5G/4G/3G wireless networks, and can be connected to terminal devices through wifi wireless networks. Therefore, industrial routers are commonly used in projects such as outdoor parking lots, smart water conservancy, industrial oil fields and underground monitoring, on-site monitoring of pollution sources, and wireless video surveillance for security.

Industrial switches are networked through wired networks, and the most common ones are Ethernet switches. Therefore, this equipment is usually used in indoor projects where wiring is convenient. For example, application scenarios such as unattended computer rooms and building distribution boxes.

What is the difference between industrial routers and industrial switches?

2. Different processing protocols and support protocols

Industrial routers: the network layer supports the "TCP/IP" protocol and handles IP address addressing

Ethernet switch: It is only used to distribute network data and is addressed according to the "MAC" address at the relay layer.

3. Firewall function

A firewall is a relatively isolated protection between the internal and external networks, and is used to protect the security of user data and information. Industrial routers support firewalls to ensure safe data transmission, while Ethernet switches do not support firewall functions.

There is a big difference between industrial routers and industrial switches, and they are also different when they are used. Therefore, you need to be clear about your own use needs and choose an industrial router or an industrial switch.
