ARM has three authorization methods
ARM's design is the basis of most mobile device processors in the world. All major mobile phone chips, including Qualcomm Snapdragon, Apple A series, Huawei Kirin chips, Samsung Exynos, etc., are all based on ARM technology. Specifically, ARM has three authorization methods: processor, POP, and architecture authorization.
Processor authorization refers to the authorization of a partner manufacturer to use the processor designed by ARM. The other party cannot change the original design, but can adjust the frequency and power consumption of the product according to their own needs.
POP (processor optimization pack, processor optimization pack) authorization is an advanced form of processor authorization. ARM sells optimized processors to authorized partners to facilitate the design and production of processors with guaranteed performance under a specific process.
Architecture authorization means that ARM will authorize partner vendors to use their own architecture to facilitate their design of processors according to their needs (for example, Qualcomm's Krait architecture and Apple's Swift architecture were designed after obtaining ARM's authorization). Therefore, licensing fees and royalties have become ARM's main sources of income. In addition, it is the income of software tools and technical support services.
