The difference between 4G industrial router and 4G DTU
4G industrial routers are widely used, supporting 5G/4G/3G/WIFI/VPN networking modes and serial DTU and wired/wireless dual backup functions. At present, 4G industrial routers are widely used in the M2M industry in the IoT industry chain, such as smart grid, smart transportation, smart home, smart finance, industrial automation, public safety, environmental protection, digital medical and other fields.
DTU is a wireless terminal device specially used to convert serial port data into IP data or convert IP data into serial port data for transmission through wireless communication networks. It is widely used in meteorology, hydrology, water conservancy, geology and other industries.
Although both transmit data, there are still obvious differences between the two:
Different application environments:
4G industrial router: usually with VPN/APN function, with private network encryption, and 4G industrial router with WIFI function is suitable for outdoor WIFI wireless signal coverage projects.
4G DTU: The transmission distance of the field terminal is relatively scattered, and the data communication rate is relatively high. Therefore, the real-time performance of 4G DTU can satisfy most industrial fields, and it is usually used as a data acquisition and monitoring system. Such as charging pile remote monitoring system, environmental monitoring system, real-time monitoring of energy consumption, monitoring applications of dam water conservancy projects, etc.
The difference in usage:
4G industrial router: It can convert the communication protocol of Ethernet and fieldbus, only need to set the IP address designated by the 4G industrial router as the gateway in the terminal equipment. If the designated IP address (or designated IP address segment) is not set, the communication function cannot be realized.
4G DTU: The main purpose is to implement dial-up, not a gateway in the true sense. For example, after the 4G DTU is connected to the terminal device to complete the dial-up link, the 4G DTU can be used as a new network device, and the terminal device address can use this 4G DTU binding address.
The anti-interference of the server network is different:
4G industrial router: The data transmission must comply with the pre-set regulations, otherwise it will not be able to communicate correctly, reducing the possibility of unnecessary network traffic; at the same time, it can be processed according to the key processing such as the serial number sent to ensure that the server data will not be Replayed or retransmitted.
4G DTU: There is no relevant filtering during data transmission, so other machines can directly send some illegal information to the device terminal through the network. At the same time, 4G DTU increases unnecessary network traffic; at the same time, the data is not processed accordingly. It may cause the rebroadcast or retransmission of wireless data, which will cause system abnormalities, thereby posing security risks.
The network interface is different:
4G Industrial Router: Provides a variety of network interfaces. The WAN port can be converted to a LAN port when necessary to provide wireless network access.
4G DTU: Generally, only serial port input is provided for wireless networking, but no network interface is provided.
Both 4G industrial routers and DTUs are an indispensable part of the Internet of Things industry. For data transmission, such as surveillance video transmission, 4G industrial routers have great advantages. In areas where the transmission distance is relatively dispersed, data communication The higher rate DTU has its own advantages.
