The difference between DTU and industrial router

Like DTU, industrial routers also implement the wireless network data transmission function. The difference between the two is mainly in the appearance of the interface, the method of use and the application environment.

The difference between DTU and industrial router

    One is the appearance interface.

    The appearance interface of the 3G/4G industrial router usually has a network port, which provides wireless networking functions for the network port device, and the network port device needs to actively visit the center to complete data transmission. Usually the router will provide multiple network interface modes of WAN port, LAN or freely switchable WAN/LAN port, and the matching interface mode can be customized according to the connection mode in the project.

    The appearance interface of DTU usually only provides the network connection of the serial interface. Mainly used for two-way transmission between serial data and IP data.

    The second is how to use it.

    Industrial routers can convert Ethernet and fieldbus communication protocols, and only need to set the designated intellectual property address in the terminal device as a gateway. If there is no designated IP address (or designated IP address segment), the communication function cannot be realized.

    The main purpose of DTU is to realize dial-up, not a real gateway. For example, when the DTU accesses the terminal device and completes the dial-up link, the DTU can be used as a new network device, and the terminal device address can use the DTU binding address.

    The third is the application environment.

    Industrial routers usually have VPN/APN functions and private network encryption. They are suitable for examination video surveillance, street lamp surveillance, oil field well surveillance, financial industry self-service terminals, drone room surveillance and other projects with high security requirements.

    In addition, industrial routers with WIFI function are suitable for projects covering outdoor WIFI wireless signals and shared projects like bus WIFI and shopping mall WIFI.

    The transmission distance of DTU applied to field terminals is relatively scattered, and the data communication speed is relatively high. Therefore, the real-time performance of DTU can satisfy most industrial fields, and it is usually used in data acquisition and monitoring systems. For example, charging pile remote monitoring system, environmental detection system, real-time monitoring of energy consumption, monitoring application of reservoir and water conservancy project, etc.
